Dear Friends,

I spent the first three weeks of July in Haiti along with a small team of college students teaching English to our children in the orphanage. It is so good to be able to sit with our kids and carry on a conversation in English. Now we have the opportunity to really get to know them as they begin to share some of their life stories. This is the fourth summer we have taught English and we are seeing a positive difference.

Aaron and Dawn Meyers joined the team for ten days. They are our niece and nephew who have done all the great work on our website (check it out at ). They also have an interest in seeing Haiti reforested. Due to poverty and lack of ability to replant trees, Haiti now has less than 5% of its trees left, resulting in eroding most of Haiti’s good farming soil out to sea, creating a loss of fishing. In May heavy rains caused mud slides resulting in considerable loss of life and property. Aaron and Dawn are helping to oversee the start of a small tree nursery in Tricotte, and hope to find a market for tree seeds. Our orphanage house father, Dumont, has a degree in agronomy and is our Haitian expert on this project. He is using many of the boys in the orphanage to prepare seeding beds, plant, water, and keep the weeds down. (The fact that Dumont was gifted in this area was unknown to us when he was hired. God provides in incredible ways.) Continue Reading →

Dear Friends

As I was leaving the orphanage one evening, Daniel Maurice, one of our older boys, said he had some things he wanted to share with me. As he walked back to the guesthouse with me, Daniel told me he wanted to be a pastor. He went on to tell me how he is sharing his faith with others. Over the last couple of months, Daniel has explained the gospel message to many and prayed with four people who wanted to receive the Savior. He told about a young teenager he heard singing a song about demons. Daniel shared with him that he knew of someone more worthy of singing praises to. The boy was interested and Daniel told him about Jesus. The boy prayed to receive Christ as Savior. It’s so good to see our young orphans growing in their faith, reaching out to the lost, and being part of God’s work in Haiti. Continue Reading →

October 2003 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

What a generous outpouring of donations for the container we have received!!  Thank you so much for your help.  We would like to individually thank each of you but we’re not sure where everything came from.  So take this as our heartfelt declaration of appreciation!!  The container has not been shipped.  We are still working out some details in Haiti.  I am going to Haiti for a few days next week and will hopefully work out these issues.  Then we will get a container here and ship it as soon as possible.  So if you have some items that you have not gotten to us, you’re not too late.  We’ll continue to take them until we ship it out.

School is well under way in Haiti with an enrollment of 3500 children in our twelve elementary schools in our Starfish Ministries’ school system.  This is up about 1000 students from last year, 1000 more needy children to have the opportunity to be fed, educated, and most of all — meet the Savior!!
