A SOUL IN OUR NET
Yvenord Alexis was a non-Christian when we met him on Friday, November 23, 2012. Pastor Esau and I went to Morne Chaise to talk to some couples who were supposed to make plans for their weddings. Two ladies and one man were present at the meeting. The other guy couldn’t make it. They told us they couldn’t get married because their houses are in such bad shape. Who cares about a house when it comes to getting married if two people have been living together for half of their lives with kids in “a house”? Well, whoever told us those couples wanted to get married missed the point. As our conversation went farther, we discovered that the man we were talking to was not a Christian. We shifted our focus from the wedding plans to “soul fishing”. We came back with a soul in our net for Jesus. Yvenord Alexis became a Christian. Praise God!
I just received this letter from our Haitian Director Daniel this morning. This is what God has called Starfish Ministries to do. It doesn’t matter what we are dealing with each day – we see those circumstances as an opportunity to share Jesus and last Friday that is exactly what Daniel and Pastor Esau did. We thank God for their sensitivity to where God is at work and to boldly present Christ Jesus whenever the opportunity comes.
Another Daniel, Daniel Fontil, was in the Starfish Ministries orphanage in Tricotte for many years. He was a leader among the children and often led worship and shared from the Bible during orphanage devotions. Daniel moved to Port-au-Prince a few years ago to complete his high schooling. With that completed he is now ready to follow his desires to go to Bible School or Seminary next September. While he is waiting he is teaching elementary school and saving money to help with his higher education. But that’s not all he’s doing.
Daniel has organized a small group of young people to go and present the gospel in Port-au-Prince. Every Sunday afternoon they go out two by two and minister in prisons, in hospitals and along the way. And every Sunday they see several people respond to the invitation to follow Jesus. This small team then follows up by taking the new believers along to church the following Sunday and are keeping in touch with them throughout the week to encourage them in their walk with Christ. What a blessing it is to see our young people completing the vision God gave us for them as they now take what they received and share it with those in spiritual need and make disciples! Please pray for Daniel and his team as they serve God in this way.
One of the ways you are helping is through providing Bibles for the new believers. We are so thankful for the response we have again received from the Christmas Giving List. One of the items on this list is Bibles and many of you have given for that need. THANK YOU!! We will get those in the hands of Daniel and his team and they will distribute them as needed.
We wish you all a very Blessed Christmas as we celebrate and remember the birth of our Savior. With the multitude of angels who sang out on Jesus’ birthday we declare, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and good will toward men.” Luke 2:14
Serving the Lord together,
