Dear Friends,

Thank you for your prayers. While the unrest intensifies in Haiti, we realize that the only hope for Haiti is in Almighty God. He alone is the answer to all the problems. Many of you have been asking about how our ministry is affected. Pastor Diogene and his wife are in Florida visiting family and enjoying a much needed rest. He is in regular contact with his church leaders in Haiti and getting updates on the situation. Before he left, Diogene made arrangements for the food needs for the orphanage and our schools for the next couple of months.

Our ministry is centered in the northern part of Haiti (see map) where much of the rebellion has taken place. Tricotte and our school villages however are mostly in very remote areas and are unaffected. Our schools are operating and the kids are being fed.

Pastor Diogene tells me that the need for food relief in his churches has grown recently. Due to the political unrest, many are struggling to find food for their families. The churches in Port-au-Prince, Drigeon and Tricotte have ministries to the neediest of these people within their communities. After church on Sunday morning the church leaders distribute food to families that would otherwise have nothing. Starfish Ministries provides the money to make that possible through some of your general donations.

Several months ago a lady from the slums of Port-au-Prince came to church. Her husband had died and she had no way of feeding her 5 children. The church began to help her with food for a meal a day. This lady heard the gospel and became a follower of Jesus Christ along with her 17 year old daughter. She has been growing in the Lord and was baptized a few months ago. Pastor Diogene recently told me that she is one of the most trustworthy members in his church. In December he received a card from her thanking the church for all they had done for her and her family both physically and spiritually.

Although times are most difficult in Haiti today, we are trusting God to use these circumstances to draw many to himself. Thank you all for your continued support for this ministry. Your prayers are so appreciated.

Some of you have asked about a map of Haiti that would point out some of the villages we share about — so hope this helps.

Serving the Lord together,

Bernie & Sheryl Bovenkamp
