Dear Friends,

The recent news of another boatload of Haitians fleeing from Haiti to the “land of opportunity” reminds us again of the desperate conditions so many experience.  I can only imagine the individual stories of these 220 Haitians.  Each one was desperate enough to risk their life and in many cases the lives of their children.  They may not have known the immigration laws of the United States and expected open arms of welcome.  They may have known them and still decided it was worth a try.  Now most of them are facing detainment and perhaps deportation.  For many life seems hopeless.

But there is hope!  Jesus stands at the door and knocks, ready to welcome with open arms anyone who desires a relationship with Him.  He will turn no one away.  He will not detain or deport.  He offers each one a freedom and peace that passes all understanding, if we only receive Him as our personal Savior and make Him Lord of our life.

We have a team of 17 going to Haiti in a few days to share that good news.  We will be taking part in an evangelistic crusade in the village of Ravine.  Pastor Kim Ryan from North County Christ the King Church will be bringing the messages for four nights.  He will share Jesus as the Bread of Life, Jesus as the Living Water, Jesus as the Light of the World, and Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life.

Ravine is the village where we started a school and school feeding program just a little over a year ago.  The parents have seen us reach out to their needy children.  Now we look forward to the opportunity to share with the parents as well.  Please pray with us that the people in Ravine would respond with open hearts and that the harvest would be great.  We are trusting Jesus Christ to save many of the lost in Ravine so that they can begin a new life of hope.

As we move into the Thanksgiving holiday season, we reflect on God’s goodness.  We have so much for which to be thankful.  We thank God for this ministry — what a privilege it is to serve Him in Haiti!  We thank God for you – the faithful supporters in this ministry.  We thank God for His abundant supply, taking care of every need.  We thank God for touching lives – Haitians lives being enriched as well as lives here at home blessed through partnership in this ministry.  We thank God for mission teams – six different teams visiting Haiti this year, ministering and being ministered to.

We thank God for the Haitian Christians who have partnered with us.  We learn so much from them.  Being so poor in material possessions, they are so rich in faith and Christ’s love.

We do appreciate your prayers – this month especially for the team that goes to minister in Ravine.  Please cover us with your prayers from November 12 – 21.  We ask that you especially pray as the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be proclaimed at the crusade 4 nights, Friday through Monday, November 15 – 18. (3:00 – 5:00 P.M. our time)  We are trusting God to do miraculous work as we are faithful to Him.

Serving the Lord together,

Bernie & Sheryl Bovenkamp
