Dear Friends,
“Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts.” I Chr. 16:8-9. We do give thanks to the Lord for all He has done! We do desire to tell of all His wonderful acts! Our hearts swell up with gratefulness as we consider all that God is doing in Haiti.
Pastor Diogene recently told me about the situation in Bethel. When school started again this fall, the witchdoctors in the village became quite irritated. You see, before the beginning of the Starfish Ministries’ school, the Bible studies, and the church planting, the witchdoctors and their evil spirits had control of Bethel. The voodoo influence permeated the people’s lives.
Now there are over 300 followers of Jesus Christ in Bethel and the church is packed out every Sunday and Tuesday night for Bible Study. The church is so strategically situated on the hill overlooking the village that the sounds of singing, praying, teaching and preaching the Name of Jesus fills the village. And the 350 children attending the Starfish Ministries’ school are singing songs about Jesus everyday too. And the result? The spirits that previously did the bidding of the witchdoctors have left and the influence enjoyed by the witchdoctors is quickly fading.
The witchdoctors are pressuring families to not send their children to the school. And some have caved into that pressure. Pastor Diogene asks us to pray for the village of Bethel, that these new believers will continue to grow spiritually and not allow the persecution to discourage them. Pastor Diogene’s outreach ministry team is conducting another evangelistic crusade in Bethel November 1-5. They are trusting God to continue to draw many to Himself during this event and also to spiritually encourage the believers.
Thank you so much for your faithful support.
Serving the Lord together,
Bernie and Sheryl Bovenkamp
